Work Based Learning (WBL) An Introduction

Dear followers!
In this very first post is a general overview of what this on-line journal is all about. I am currently one third of my way through a degree at South Devon College in Devon, England. I am studying Performance Practise and Events Management. One of our assignments consists of going out into the 'real world', and pursuing different jobs or placements, and assessing these. These placements can be anything to do with performance, events management, or any job description that you feel will help you on your way to your career.
Further down the page, you will find a breakdown of my proposal of what I intend to learn (skills in various companies etc) throughout these placements.
Keep smiling!

(In the following post I will be giving an overview of my WBL assignment, the module criteria, Aims and Objectives, and a breakdown of my proposal.)

Work Based Learning Assignment: Task 2: (criteria)

Reflective Journal Blog:
Construct and maintain a reflective journal blog for the duration of each work placement. This journal will need to reflect:
- Your feelings throughout each placement
- Whether a specific process worked or not, and why.
- How your placement will change as a result or your reflective journal.
- The affect work placement has on your career plans.
- How your feelings have changed towards your course/career as a result of the placement.

Project proposal of WBL (a breakdown of the original- given March 16th 2009)

I hope to (over the next few years) to be involved with the following genres of performance.
Burlesque
Radio
Although I am quite happy to travel, I would prefer for these to take place in the South West.
Right now I am making plans to join the Dartington radio team, and possibly be part of their amateur shows. In preparation for this, I have started doing the college radio shows once a week, to give me some insight and experience before hand.
I am also making contact at the moment with a company based in Exeter called "Kinky and Quirky", who run monthly burlesque shows, with workshops.
The skills I am bringing to both of these companies is first and foremost my confidence. I have also been dancing for over 15 years (in relation to the burlesque), and am a very chatty person (in relation to the radio). Although I am outspoken at times, I feel both these genres will help me to channel my energy into something worthwhile.
I have chosen these two genres because they are not of the 'norm' when it comes to performance. I feel I am more suited into a company that may not be everyone's cup of tea, as I am drawn more towards the different things in this life!
