Festivals!!Dear followers!
Although there is loads of info I still have to put up right now, I thought I would tell you about my work placement coming, as this is the summer of festivals and getting that British sun (while it's still here!)
Please note: Although I have already mentioned in my introduction post about the two genres of performance I would like to work on (Burlesque and Radio), things change, and when a good opportunity comes along, I cant say no!
A couple of weeks ago, I heard about an opportunity to volunteer at a couple of festivals over the summer, working alongside Oxfam.
I would be a steward, helping festival goers with any queries they have, sorting out tickets at gates, crowd control, security etc. Although this is completely voluntary, stewarding is an important job, you are essentially there to make sure the festivals goers as safe, and you are representing Oxfam as a charity.
I suppose I am a hippy at heart, and love the idea of spending a couple of weeks in a field, cooking beans on a tiny hob and getting down and dirty with English mud!
This placement will also help me understand the organisation that Charity's such as Oxfam has to undertake to make sure a festival goes ahead without too many hitches.
Therefore, as from the 15th July (2009), next week, I will be travelling up to The Glade festival near Winchester. After that festival is over, I will travelling to WOMAD, held at Charlton Park. (For more info on both these festivals, see end of post- with link to website.)
I have started to pack (when I say started, I mean, made a list!) and am looking forward to both of these music festival, which I have been told, are completely different to one another!
Here are a list of my Aims and Objectives which I hope to meet while on this placement. . :
1. I hope to understand how the organisation comes together to operate a stress-free festival.
2. I would like to have the confident to use my logic and knowledge to help in whatever situation arises.
3. I hope to make valuable contacts within these different organisations and put them to use in the future.
4. I hope to fulfill the requirements of a steward to the best of my ability.
I will end this post here, and upload all of the wonderful details- plus photos when I return!
Keep smiling
Ruby Foxglove xxxx
Info on The Glade/WOMAD
The Glade: taken from http://www.gladefestival.com/
"A place to come and express yourself freely, connect with like minded people, dance and have a blindingly good time. . .Glade festival is now recognised as the leading electronic dance music festival in the UK, but is so much more than a rave. . It's a proper British music festival run by people who love life, music, freedom, art, and alternative culture for people who love the same."
WOMAD: taken from http://www.womad.org/
"The WOMAD Festival experience is not about the familiar, the tried and tested; its essence is in the discovery and enjoyment of a totally unexpected artist or a style of music which would never otherwise have been encountered. It's a magical, musical melting pot, enriching all who experience it. "
