Dear followers!
So, this is our second meeting with Sarah and Mark Bell, the duo that make up Kinky and Quirky. Last week we spoke about our placement, their history of how they began and set up, things that had wrong for them, and seemingly what has gone right for them!
This week we were speaking more in depth about marketing for the Christmas shows. Although they would like everyone to come to their Burlesque night's, sometimes, burlesque isn't for everyone!
We spoke about how you would approach a certain clique of people and persuade them to come along to the night, whether there were certain groups of people in the community that we hadn't yet thought of approaching and asking whether they would like to come along to the evenings. For example: dance groups/ classes, art colleges, music clubs, hospitals etc etc.
When thinking of marketing, the larger your area of scope is, the more likely your going to get a larger amount of people.
Another database task has been given to us, finding local businesses in and around the Exeter area to personally hand out flyers and leaflets to, rather than an e-flyer as they are not connected to the internet, or not advertise as being so.
We also spoke about how to 'sell' the evenings of Burlesque. What tools and skills we had available to us for us to sell the product well. It is the same deal if you wanted to sell a product in the street. How would you get people interested? How would you keep them interested, and want to purchase the product, this is the same thing.
Next week, we shall be laminating and working on advertising spiel for the Christmas leaflets!
I feel very positive about the work we are doing with Sarah and Mark Bell. They might refer to the jobs we are doing as 'donkey work', but if you don't put the effort into the small things, how are you going to appreciate the larger picture?
The work we are doing is also putting into practise exactly what we all learned in Professional Skills last year, it already seems as though we are part of a business.
Keep coming back to the next installment!
Keep smiling
