Dear followers!
Here are the minuets from the second meeting I attended for the event 'Fossil Fools Day' in Totnes.
Attended: Chris Bird, Andrew --------, Paula Black (teacher at Park’s School), Laura Harrison, Caz Martin-Brown, a women from ‘Friends of the Earth’- no name.
Apologise to : Hannah Nutbeem, Michael Rose, Gionno Rose.
As we only have about 12 days left to the event (April 1st), this meeting was a crucial part, to see where everyone was up to. Below are the points we covered:
1. We now have access to the stocks, so will be putting ‘King Cole’ (Chris Bird) into the stocks at the end of the trail!
2. Chris Bird is going to make plans to get the town crier involved, to shout something whilst going up the street.
3. The chant (done by Laura) is going to be used by the various energies (us) and possibly the children.
4. We can possibly get some children involved in the event, Paula Black, a teacher at Park’s School (Dartington) might be able to help us with this.
5. The Totnes town mayor might want to get involved (Pam Burns) with being the judge.
Below are the tasks that need to be completed.
NB: Gionno Rose has apologized, but she is no longer taking part in this event.
Tasks
-Plastic Chains to buy/ costumes to consider (possible access to Dartington costume department)
-Making shakers (to use when parading up the main town centre, catch people's attention)
-Making head-dresses (3) (this is for ourselves to wear when interrogating Ole' King Cole)
- Asking media students to video (Chris Bird is hoping this will be onto the Internet, therefore we need some people to film it.)
-Speech for trail
Details for head-dresses and speeches:
Task: To make a simple head-dress (piece of felt plus VELCRO, with a picture of the said subject.)
1. Amazon Rain forest
2. Polar Bears (plus the ice caps melting??) *
3. Crops failing to grow and flourish *
4. Drought
5. Water Pollution *
6. Sea life and Land animals
* = Laura
All the above need to have a short speech typed up to say that because of the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions, they are at risk. These are for members of the audience to read out at the trail.
Initial thoughts after this meeting:
Although all of us are working as a team, there is just under two weeks until the event goes ahead, and I feel Chris Bird is still expecting alot from us. What we are finding most difficult is contacting the schools for them to participate with us. I can't help thinking it is bad timing to try and get children involved with less than two weeks notice. Also, some of the volunteers have dropped out, so the tasks they were doing, have now been handed over to the people that are left, creating pressure.
