Here is the final post of the Fossil Fools Day, the actual event, after the hard work and mild stress (!), here is the outcome!
Evaluation of Fossil Fools Day 2009
1st April Totnes Town Centre
After all of our preparation for this event, the day was finally upon us. We have all prepared and rehearsed to the best of our ability, below is the evaluation of the whole event:
Evaluation of content:
Despite having to make up the trial script less than a week before the event, as our previous helper, (Gionno Rose) didn’t send us the trial, and the fact that some people didn’t show up on the day and let us down, the day went very well. By the time the event came around, we had all the content printed out and ready for the trail. Laura and myself had devised 3 ‘alternative’ energy speeches, 6 ‘mini’ speeches for the audience to participate, and also the complete trail script. (all included in portfolio.)
On the day of the event, the 3 ‘alternative’ energies, (Laura H, Rich Y and I) went over the trial with Chris Bird, who was playing ‘Ole King Cole’. We also got a Judge, who went over the trial with us.
For the actual event, the complete scripted trial went without a hitch. There was quite a lot of ad-libbing done throughout, but there always has to be some as there wasn’t enough time to rehearse totally.
Evaluation of Participation:
There were quite a lot of letdowns before and on the day. The day before, Laura and myself found out that Michael Rose was not going to be involved and had dropped out at the last minute. Also Hannah Nutbeem was meant to be the alternative energy of ‘Wind’, but she didn’t turn up on the day either. Thankfully, I had arranged for Richard De Young to play ‘Wind’ instead. Laura and I felt quite let down by those who didn’t participate, and neither tell us that they weren’t participating. In retrospect, the event went really well.
Evaluation of Entire Event
Although there wasn’t really very much time to put all of the preparation together, Laura and I worked very hard to let the event come off without too much hassle. I enjoyed working with ‘Transition Town Totnes’ and felt I achieved many skills with trying to organise an event. As I have mentioned, there wasn’t a lot of time to organise this big an event, and I felt Laura and I acted to the best of our ability.

Here are Laura and myself painted up before walking up the high street. The face painting was done by Kate Wilson, who is affiliated with ‘Friends of the Earth’. Our costumes and face painting were meant to symbolise our energies.

Here is Laura and Richard ready and painted for the walk as well. (Richard did not wear the top shown, he was the energy of wind!)
Here is Chris Bird all ready and painted to portray ‘Ole King Cole’. We did have some trouble the day before trying to get a crown for Chris. So on the day, I went and bought some black card and made a crown. I was under the impression that the crown would be gold, for a king. But Chris advised me at the last minute that it should probably be black, to show the ‘dirtiness’ of the character.

Here is a photo of ‘Ole King Coal’ and the Judge posing after the event. Due the fact the audience wanted ‘King Cole’ to be ‘damned’, we decided to put him in the stocks to show the audience ‘justice has been done!

Here are the alternative energies ‘mocking’ and ‘cheering’ at ‘King Cole’. For the media coverage, we did have Totnes Times come and take some photos of us, so hopefully they will be in the paper.
Final Thoughts:
In conclusion, I did have a good time helping with this event. I feel the organisation should have started sooner, and wonder why it wasn't, say february or even sooner. That way, we could have had schools involved, and this could have been a major event in Totnes. But none-the-less, we did have an audience, there were alot of laughs, and I have made some good coneccetions in Totnes.
